The McDonald's Custom Oversized Fence Project - Ruston, WA

Despite the craziness from Covid, 2020 has been our busiest year to date. Our phone rings off the hook and our email inbox is full of requests to build cheap budget fences all around Tacoma, but that’s just not what we do. Sure, we could probably make a lot more money if we used the cheaper crappy materials, and took every job that came our way like other companies, but that’s not our style. We live right here in Tacoma and we want tp feel proud of the work we drive by everyday, not embarrassed when it’s falling apart in a few years. Plus, since we started Wilder we have always operated on the idea of quality over quantity. We would rather build one beautiful fence with quality materials than one hundred cheap mediocre ones. This fence we built for the McDonalds in the summer of 2020 is the perfect example of that idea.

Every aspect of this fence is custom from the footings to the arbor top. The whole project was built with oversized cedar to ensure it stands up to the elements and last a LONG time. The posts are tight knot cedar 6x6’s and they are set in 2’ deep concrete footings with sloped tops to prevent rot from water pooling at the base of each post. The fence frame is built with tight knot cedar 2x6’s, the fence boards are alternating 4” + 6” tight knot cedar pickets, and the top and bottom is trimmed out with tight knot cedar 1x6’s. Along the top we custom cut over 100 angled arbor pieces and set them 12” apart to give top a beautiful finish and provide some additional privacy.

Working with Rachel and Ty on this fence project was really an awesome experience. They are rad people who made working through the strange times of Covid a pleasure. From the start they knew they didn’t want anything cookie cutter. They wanted a fence that was big and burly to stand up to the high winds that blew through their hillside perch, but they didn’t want to sacrifice aesthetics. Both form and function were important on this one, and working together we came up with this gorgeous design you see here. Now that it’s all said and done, we’re extremely stoked with how it all came together, and can’t wait for the next one!
